Journal of Laryngology and Otology - Article of the Month February 2023

 

The JLO article of the month for February 2023 is Functional ear symptoms referred to an otology clinic: incidence, co-morbidity, aetiological factors and a new experience-driven clinical model. This is based on Mr Patel's clinical practice at Whipps Cross University hospital and is co-authored by Mr Patel.

Pocket Tutor Otolaryngology 2012

Mr Nitesh Patel has co-authored a book aimed at general practitioners, medical students and ENT trainees. This book was ‘Highly commended’ at the British Medical Association Awards 2012 in the category of Medicine and favourably reviewed in The Journal of Laryngology and Otology

At Home, choosing your consultant

 

Mr Nitesh Patel was invited for inclusion in the magazine 'At Home, choosing your consultant' with TV celebrity Doctor Hilary Jones (from GMTV), a guide to the UK's leading health specialists. Mr Nitesh Patel contributed an article entitled 'How to manage Glue Ear'.

 

New surgical techniques

 

Mr Nitesh Patel has published on new surgical techniques:

  • Endaural Meatoplasty - aimed at widening the ear canal during mastoid surgery  or for ear canal stenosis with good patient reported outcomes. This was published in The Journal of Laryngology and Otology
  • Mastoid cavity reconstruction with Sofradex-soaked Bone pate - aimed at bony obliteration of a mastoid cavity after cholesteatoma surgery. This was published in B-ENT journal

 

Channel 4 Embarrassing Bodies

 

Mr Nitesh Patel appeared on Channel 4's Embarrassing bodies programme. His successful treatment of a difficult case of eczematous otitis externa was aired on TV. The patient had suffered for years with significant inflammation of the external ear and ear canal with a discharging ear. Images can be seen below before and after treatment.
